Weekly Stuff!

Welcome back to Weekly Stuff! At this point, I steadfastly refuse to provide a better title. This time, Luke has joined me to contribute whatever he found most interesting over the last week. He’s provided the first three links this time, and it’s helped me out significantly because he consumes a lot more cycling-related media than I do!

Strait Acres Slalom

The Strait Acres Slalom is always a cool thing to watch. Fast people riding bikes. It was moved to a mountain, which made for some good racing. Check out the linked video for some highlights.

Crashing and the Olympics

Mathieu van der Poel had a big crash at the Olympics. A bridge/roll option was removed from a drop and, apparently, not every rider was made aware of the change. He seems to be alright, but that could not have been fun. (Joe’s note: this prompted a roughly hour-long discussion between Luke and I about course design, safety, and communication with riders. Definitely passes the mark for “interesting.” Plus: what a photo!)

Tomomi Nishikubo

Trials is cool. Tomomi Nishikubo is cool. Check out his latest Olympic inspired edit.

Road Bikes

Well, just the one road bike this time. The design of this thing from Hope really caught my attention because it looks just so weird. It’s exciting to see this kind of development taking place even though it is well outside of my budget because experimental work will lead to advancements that ultimately trickle down, in some form or another, into a bike I can actually afford. It’s also exciting to see that we’ve still got plenty of room for innovation on the standard double-triangle bike frame design.
