There wasn’t as much I found interesting this week, so this is a shorter entry. This is the way of things this week!
Blog Updates
Oh how exciting, updates about the blog itself! Well, maybe. I’ve been casting about for new tools to make an effort towards making the site more interesting looking, so I suppose something to announce is the new Weekly Stuff! graphic that you’ll see with this page. I’m clearly a rookie with that kind of design, so I expect it to change over time. Or I’ll just make Luke do it, and he’ll probably get it right the first time.
DeFeet Announces Something
But we’re not sure what. I’m including this because they make the best wool gloves I’ve ever used, full stop. Whatever they’re cooking up has to be pretty neat (Well, I hope, or this might look like a foolish entry). The only info provided thus far was being here August 3rd at 11:00 AM EST.
Folding Gravel Bike
If you require a bike that looks kind of funny, has some convenient features, and sports a gravel-specific designation, Vello appears to have you covered. I say “looks funny” because folding bikes are so unusual looking that my non-folding bike bias can’t help but peek through. It looks like a pretty solid build and the tires are delightful (“Billy Bonkers” is the best name for tires and I’ll hear no counter arguments).
Personal Updates
I got to learn about fatigue management in the only way a lesson will stick with me: the hard way. Drastically increasing mileage week over week didn’t work out so well for me, which should be obvious to anyone else but I thought I could probably handle it. That is to say, I had a very sleepy week. Then we had a heat wave followed by a thick, rich blanket of wildfire smoke that blew in. Since I’m reasonably susceptible to breathing problems from smoke, and it was bad enough to just walk around in it, I figured the prudent thing was to probably move indoors for a bit and not punish myself by getting out in all that. The upcoming week looks better, though, as the air quality alert appears to be slated to end on Tuesday. Here’s hoping!
